Passion for Healing: My Approach as a Trauma Therapist in Texas
My career in mental health began at the esteemed Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation in St. Paul, Minnesota, where I worked as a Professional Addiction Counselor. I then continued at the Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, California, supporting individuals facing substance use and co-occurring disorders. To expand my expertise, I earned certifications in Gestalt Therapy and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). Additionally, I completed a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northwestern University and received a diploma as a Master Herbalist. These achievements broadened my ability to offer holistic care. After relocating to Texas, I became a Licensed Clinical Counselor and founded The Magnuson Mazzoni Center. Through this initiative, I built a dedicated team of psychotherapists serving clients across the state. As a trauma therapist in Texas, I remain committed to helping individuals develop effective skills to manage and heal from trauma using evidence-based approaches such as EMDR and Gestalt Therapy.
Career & Experience
Over the years, I have successfully developed co-occurring treatment programs and facilitated therapy sessions for individuals of all ages. Specifically, my work encompasses a range of services, including group therapy, psychoeducation, individual counseling, and family and couples therapy. Each of these offerings is thoughtfully designed to support healing from trauma, addiction, and emotional challenges.
In addition, I have had the opportunity to guide medical students through hands-on group therapy experiences, while also educating them about the complexities of addiction. Furthermore, my role as an adjunct professor at the University of Nebraska Omaha has enabled me to teach courses on co-occurring disorders and multicultural counseling. Through these diverse roles, I have consistently promoted inclusive, trauma-informed care. Consequently, this experience reinforces my strong commitment to lifelong learning and professional development in the mental health field.
